Boone continues to bully small business

I am always appalled at how Boone's government caters to big projects and chains like the new  complexes of student housing http://www.hcpress.com/news/new-clawsongreene-mega-complex-planned-for-august-of-2014-near-intersection-of-421-194-pending-re-zoning-request.html do those names sound familiar?

Also giving any break needed to attract more chain restaruants and stores. But yet business that has been here for ever like live music on King Street and in downtown is pressured relentlessly, as to make it impossible to turn a profit. Soon downtown will be all chains and the town owned theater is all there will be for entertainment in Boone

  1. I completly agree! The town's codes and code officials are way too hateful, unconcerned, and abusive. I could go on but i think most everyone that has had much dealings with them understands. The town is going to continue getting sued and politicians are going to continue to fight them at state and/or higher levels, untill we can no longer afford it. I recently read Boone has spent 132k on 1 case and another 250k on lobbing efforts (mostly fighting State laws aimed at boone). I would be willing to bet this all could have been saved if the code enforcement folks were just a little more polite and respectful! Thats our money being spent on attitude and foolishness!

  2. I have been here a bit over 20 years now, and i have seen more small business close up and leave Boone then i can count. And in almost every case they did not get replaced by more small business. They were replaced by chains.

It is clear to me that Boone is about who they can cater to that will pay the highest tax dollar per square foot. Not what may be best for the community.

Thanks for your contibution to the blog. Opoib
